This generation of mothers knows so much more about caring for their families than mothers in the past. They know specific facts on specific topics that mothers from the last few generations gave only a passing thought to.
Mothers in this informed generation are now reading more books and articles, the media is covering more consumer subjects and of course there's the Internet where Mom can research just about any topic that comes into her head.
One of these topics is health. Mom has learned that it's a must to have a healthy mouth as well as a health body. She has learned about bacteria in the mouth and how important the mouth is to whole body health. She has learned that specific bacteria are responsible for cavities, gum disease and some diseases of the body. She has learned that these bacteria have been shown to have links between reoccurring infections like colds, flu and strep throat and chronic infections like heart disease, stroke, diabetic complications, respiratory problems, pancreatic cancer, premature childbirth and low birth weight babies.
Today's Mom knows that to rid the mouth of germs you need to brush your teeth at least twice a day. She knows she needs to replace her family's toothbrushes with new ones every 3-4 months.
